October Food Drive
Why – as part of our Year of Action commitment to support one local and one global charity
Who – LIA (Leaders In Action) at Westheights is a team of 16 hardworking Grade 7 & 8 students who want to help make a positive difference in the world
What – LIA organized a month long food drive that started on Tuesday Oct 14th and will end on Fri Oct 31st with Free the Children Halloween for Hunger campaign
- Students can bring in a $0.25 donation to purchase a ballot to guess the number of cheese balls in a giant container 100% all donations will go to the local food bank along with all the food donations. The top 4 guesses that are closest to the actual amount will win one of 4 delicious Halloween treats: cheese balls, Oreos, candy corn M&Ms or Skeleton Cheetos
- Students are encouraged in every homeroom to bring in food donations for our weekly class challenge. The class who is in the top spot (who’s brought in the most food overall) gets bragging rights and a trophy filled with Halloween eyeball gum. This friendly competition encourages other classes to knock that class off the leader board and claim that spot and to achieve the overall goal to support the local food bank
- Goal is to have school wide participation in Halloween for Hunger, which encourages kids to trick or treat for canned food this Halloween and spread the word about hunger in our community
So far Westheights Warriors have donated a whopping 982 food items in only 8 days! The food drive will with LIA students touring the KW Food Bank in November!
