This is just a small sample of what our Warriors collected!

As part of Westheights Public School’s Year of Action commitment to support one local and one global charity, their Leaders in Action (LIA) team organized a month long food drive to support the Free the Children We Scare Hunger campaign.

Students were asked to bring in a $0.25 donation to purchase a ballot to guess the number of cheese balls in a giant container – total number 896. The top 4 guesses that are closest to the actual amount will win one of four delicious Halloween treats: cheese balls, Oreos, candy corn M&Ms or Skeleton Cheetos. Congratulations to Jessie Huynh with a guess of 898! The runner-up winners were Brennen McCanna, principal Mrs. Jutzi, and classroom teacher Mr. Greenhalgh.

In addition, every homeroom class was encouraged to bring in food donations for their weekly class challenge. The class who brought in the most food overall by Monday November 3rd would get bragging rights and a trophy filled with Halloween eyeball gum. Congratulations to 8D Mr. Sargent and his class for bringing in 413 food items!

The goal of these initiatives was to have school wide participation and encourage kids to trick or treat for canned food this Halloween and spread the word about hunger in our community. Their hope is that their dedication to the cause can feed many families in the Waterloo Region as the holiday season begins.

All money and food item donations raised will go directly to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region; the Warriors donated a grand total of 2,358 food items and raised $63!
