December 9th, 2014
Westheights Cake Raffle Week has started off with a bang, our first cake donation is a 3 Tier Vanilla and Strawberry cake featuring some of the Free The Children Initiatives that our LIA group is taking on this month: Goats for Empowerment and We Bake for Change, and features Westheights mascot on top! Here’s more information about each of the initiatives that are running this month:
1. Goats for Empowerment! ($50 donations buy 1 goat for a woman in a developing country to help her support her family and build a business)
– LIA is running Holiday Hot Chocolate Sales in Mr. Bouchard portable. Our goal is to purchase 5 goats throughout December. Students will be invited to Portable 24’s café on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. With a donation of $1, they will receive a warm spot to sit for nutrition break and a cup of hot chocolate in a festive environment.
2. We are Rafikis! ($10 purchase of a Rafiki necklace (word for Friend) helps support a mother in Kenya who makes jewellery for the organization as a source of sustainable employment)
– Rafikis will be sold for $10 in the front foyer all week next week and will continue until they are gone! We are encouraging students to purchase them as Secret Santa gifts or gifts for their families. Many colours will be on display for the choosing! Each rafiki chain has a track it back number so that people can track their impact. Great gift idea!
3. We Bake for Change! LIA will be hosting 2 cake raffles in the month of December
– Wednesday Dec.10th & Friday Dec. 12th are Westheights two cake raffle days! Homeroom classes are encouraged to collect their spare change over this week and be ready for Tuesday and Friday to make their bid for a cake! It is always a big hit! Classes will be asked to submit their first bid to the Guidance office on Dec. 10 at First NB and cakes will be on display while donations are tallied. A representative from those classes with the highest bids will be called down in succession to select their cake for the class.
Thank you in advance for supporting Westheights Public School and Free The Children Empowerment Campaigns!
