Dear Westheights Families,

As Ms. Holden has shared, Westheights will be receiving a new Vice Principal next year and I welcome Rob Dickson to the role and to an amazing team.

I have been both proud and thankful to be a part of the Westheights community over the past two years.  We have adjusted and adapted our way through all of the changes that we have faced together and we’ve done it gracefully and thoughtfully.

It has been my joy in the midst of the unexpected to provide as much predictability as was possible to our staff and students on a daily basis, and to help make sure all of our students got to experience rotary, lockers, extracurriculars, and (for our grade 8s) an in-person year-end celebration.  I am excited about my future contributions to Preston High School, but I will most definitely be leaving a piece of my heart with our Warriors here in this most memorable community.

To our Grade 7s, I want to say thank you for sharing your stories with me; I’m glad to have been able to play a part in them.  Enjoy your grade 8 year at Westheights and remember to daily ask yourself by your own standards and metrics, “What could I do today, to be even just a little bit better than I was yesterday?”  Gradual progress and improvement over time yields incredible resilience and results.

To our Grade 8s, I encourage you to go forward, always thinking of what role you can play to help make all of the communities to which you belong (and even those you don’t) a better place. Ponder in the day-to-day how we can lift up and encourage one another to really be the best that we can be.  We wake up each day with a new day stretching out in front of us that is filled with opportunity, so make each day a good day.

Thoughtfully,

Trevor Gerard
