Dear Parents/Guardians of Students on an IEP:

Welcome back to a new school year at Westheights Public School! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our resource team: Lisa Osborn, the Grade 7 Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) and Nadima Mahamad, the Grade 8 SERT at Westheights. We also have three amazing EAs: Jen Sargeson (Grade 7 Core), Penny Penticost (Grade 8 Core), Vanessa Haffner (French Immersion Grade 7/8). We would like to extend an invitation for open communication between the school and yourselves.

The role of the Resource Teacher includes collaboration with classroom teachers to program for students with various special needs. We will be meeting with your child to review their Individual Education Plan (IEP). The support we provide for them is developed collaboratively and documented in the IEP.  SERTs also support students who may benefit from participation in small groups outside of the regular classroom like Corrective Reading, Language and Math small group instruction.

We look forward to working with you to address your child’s academic needs within a framework

that integrates their social and emotional well-being. We would like to hear from you about how

you see your child’s strengths, needs and interests.  To that end, we have enclosed a Google form  https://forms.gle/urEc1SVYn6LVWT3i6 that provides you with an opportunity to share some thoughts about your child. We will use this information when creating your child’s IEP.  The updated IEP will then come home by secure email on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

Should you wish to reach us at the school regarding any concerns or questions that are not addressed on the attached Google form, please call us at 519-744-3549 or email us and we will return your call or email as soon as possible.

We are anticipating an engaging and fulfilling year with your child.

Yours in Education,

Lisa Osborn
