Good morning Westheights families,

As many of you are aware, there is significant research outlining the danger of smoking and vaping. At Westheights, both smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited. If students are caught with vapes, cigarettes or lighters on school grounds, they will be taken away from students and safely disposed of. Do not allow your children to come to school with vapes, cigarettes or lighters/matches.

If students are caught physically vaping or smoking on school grounds, we will be following the Region of Waterloo’s “Student No Smoking Or Vaping Violation Form”. Please review this form carefully and discuss with your children:

https://forms.regionofwaterloo.ca/Council-and-Administrative-Services/Licensing/Student-No-Smoking-Or-Vaping-Violation-Form (you will need to copy and paste into your browser, as SchoolDay still does not function at capacity).

First step for students caught vaping/smoking on Westheights grounds is a one day suspension. Second step is suspension and contacting the Tobacco Enforcement Officer. Third step is suspension, contacting the Tobacco Enforcement Officer and a fine of $300 issued to the child’s guardian.

We trust this won’t be an issue for us at Westheights, but wanted families to have a clear understanding of the steps we will take for students caught smoking or vaping on school grounds.

Thank you for your support,
