Girl’s Varsity Volleyball Champs Again!!!!!!
A huge congratulations going out to the Girl’s Varsity Volleyball Team, who won their 4th consecutive “A” Division Championship on Tuesday December 8th, 2015.
The Westheights Warriors came out strong and showed why they were the only undefeated team after regular season.
On route to the finals, the Warriors received a bye in the Quarter Finals for being ranked number one. In the Semi-Finals, the girls faced Sunnyside and handily defeated them in straight sets.
The finals were held right here at Westheights where we faced the Centennial Lions who were looking to avenge an earlier season loss to the Warriors.
Outstanding passing, setting and hitting made it almost impossible for the Lions to compete. The girls started out strong and never looked back winning in straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19.
A special thank you to Mme McGahey for assisting with this year’s team and to Mr. Mudie for refereeing all of our regular season games. Also a shout out to all of the staff and students who came out to support the Warriors and cheer us on to victory!
Ms. D. Murray
Boys’s Varsity Volleyball Champs!!!!!!
A HUGE congratulations goes out to the boys varsity volleyball team for coming first place in the A division for WRDSB.
The boys won the championship game on Monday against Centennial in a nail biter. The boys had a rough start to the match losing the first two games to a strong centennial squad. The opponent returned everything and put up some excellent hits against us, but the boys showed real character and determination as they battled back to win the last three sets.
The boys came together as a team and played with excellent chemistry. They were positive and knew what they had to do to stay in the game. The 5th set was a nail biter and had everyone holding their breath as we went from a 13-7 lead to 14-14. The boys had come too far to let the win go and they finished the last two points as champions should.
Thanks to all of the staff and students who came out to support this season, your cheering was definitely appreciated. Also, a big thanks to Ms Harper, Mr. W and Ms Guy for all of their coaching this season and thanks to Mr. Johnston and Ms. Ilic for reffing our games.
To the boys, we hope you learned a little bit this season and we hope that you continue to play volleyball in some capacity in your future. You’ve been such a pleasure to work with and will go far in whatever it is you do.
