As many of you are aware, the people of Fort McMurray, Alberta are reeling, after the devastation caused by wildfires earlier this week. The fires in the northern part of the province began on Sunday, and since then:
- 1600 homes and businesses in the city have been destroyed.
- Over 88000 people have had to be evacuated to safety.
- One thousand fire fighters have gone into Fort McMurray, along with men and women of the Canadian military to help out.
- 7 of the wildfires are still out of control.
- The evacuation of the people of Fort McMurray is the largest evacuation ever undertaken in Alberta’s history.
The people of this city need our help.
Starting on Monday, May 9th and for the next two weeks, we are asking all Warriors to do what they can. The best way to help right now is with donations to the Canadian Red Cross. So, if you can bring in spare change, loonies, toonies, whatever, we will collect the donations in the Resource Room. And, for every dollar that you bring in, Warriors, the staff at Westheights will match those donations, dollar for dollar. Please consider helping out.
Thank you.
